Mission Beach is described as the rainforest capital of Far North Queensland. It lies on the Great Green Way about an hour and a half’s drive south of Cairns and is the center of one of Australia’s most scenically beautiful regions. Mission Beach is close to Tully and the magnificent rivers and forests of this region are home to the rare Cassowary and many other unique wildlife species. The region is popular among Australian caravaners and there are several great caravan parks in the region. Mission Beach is situated on a stretch of the Australian coastline that is bordered on one side by beautiful islands and resorts and on the other by a magnificent hinterland filled with attractions and activities. Mission Beach is the departure point for both Dunk Island resort and Bedarra Island resort and the ferry transfers for both depart from Clump Point jetty in the north of the town. Water taxi services also depart from the main beach at the center of town.
Tropical resorts are a feature of the region. On the mainland you will find several excellent places to stay. Imagine a resort set in deep rainforest yet every accommodation unit has views for miles over the Coral Sea and the archipelago of islands spread out below. Mission Beach is also known for its restaurants and cafes and the town center has some excellent shopping. Hinterland attractions in the region include white water rafting in the magnificent Tully gorge, skydiving with Jump the beach skydiving . Paronella Park is a popular daytime destination at ElArish and its magnificent tropical gardens and ruins are a reminder of its past glory. You can also go to the local barramundi farm and catch your own dinner. The entire Mission Beach region has a fantastic holiday atmosphere and is a great place to go for your annual holidays with the family.
