Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island lies just off the coast of Townsville in far north Queensland and is both a residential home to over 2000 permanent residents and a tourist and holiday destination for both domestic and international holiday makers. The local scenery is magnificent with huge outcrops of granite boulders intermingled with the local pine trees and bays surrounded by white sandy beaches. The main residential areas are at Nelly Bay on the inshore side of the island, Horsehoe Bay on the ocean side and Arcadia which surrounds the boat harbour area. The island is accessed by fast passenger ferry from Townsville or by vehicular ferry if you want to take your car across. The island is popular with backpackers and families alike.

Mantra One Bright Point

Magnetic Island is the home of the largest colony of koala in Australia and also has many other uniquely Australian species like Kangaroo and Wallabys. Aquatic activities are always popular around the shores of magnetic island. There is a beautiful marina in the boat harbour from which you can board a sailing tour that will take you to some of the secluded beauty spots around the perimeter of the island. Fishing and diving trips are also popular and swimming at the local beaches is great Horseshoe Bay in particular is very popular with a strip of shops and restaurants along the beachfront. There are stinger nets to protect beach goers from marine jellyfish and hire equipment like paddle skis and sailing catamarans and jet skis are available for hire from the beach itself. Magnetic Island also has a beautiful nine hole golf course with some really challenging holes. Small greens and plenty of trouble means you need to be careful. The course is lots of fun and a great place for any standard golfer. Greg Norman classed one of the par threes in the most difficult holes in Australia.

There is a wide range of accommodation on Magnetic Island. Tens of thousands of backpackers visit the island every year and they are catered for in a number of excellent backpacker hostels. There are a large number of holiday homes and apartments available for holiday rentals and there are two beautiful resorts situated on the waterfront right at the boat harbour. These are Peppers Blue on Blue resort and Mantra One Bright Point resort. Both of these offer restaurants and beautiful self contained apartment style accommodation at very reasonable rates.

Magnetic Island provides a unique holiday destination that is unlike any other island destination, anywhere on the Australian coastline.
