The local waters are an unspoilt paradise and the quality of the reefs in the region is legend among divers. The island has its own fringing reef system and there is a large coral lagoon at the western end of the island. Only a short cruise away are internationally recognized dive sites like the Ribbon Reefs and the Cod hole, where a number of large Potato Cod have become tame to their human visitors and show considerable interest in them. The Lizard Island resort provides charter vessels that can be used for both diving and fishing charters.
