Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree region in tropical north Queensland’s is one of the planets most important conservation areas. It is located between Port Douglas and Cooktown and takes in the rainforests of the Daintree and Cape Tribulation. This region contains some of the largest remaining tracts of virgin rainforest anywhere on the planet. Many tourists come here to see a living link with the past and to marvel at the pristine beauty of this fantastic place. At Cape Tribulation the rainforests run right to the ocean shoreline and set among the forests are a number of eco resorts where you can stay for a few days and explore this beautiful region. The Daintree is usually accessed from Port Douglas or Cairns. Many people hire a four wheel drive vehicle and drive the full length of the Bloomfield track, through the rainforest and along the coast to the Aboriginal settlement of Wujul Wujul and then cross the Bloomfield river and drive on to Cooktown. This is a fantastic trip and involves crossing creeks and streams and there are beautiful waterfalls to see along the way. Most tourists are happy to take organized tours into the region and sit back and let an experienced tour guide do the driving and give them interesting and informative information about the region as they pass through it.
