The Cairns Beaches region in far north Queensland is a fantastic place to stay while you experience the attractions that bring millions of tourists to visit this magnificent part of Australia. The Cairns Beaches cover a short stretch of coastline running from Cairns, north for about twenty five kilometers and contains the most popular beachside holiday destinations including Machan’s Beach, Yorkeys Knob, Trinity Beach, Clifton beach, Kewarra Beach, Palm Cove and Ellis Beach. Because of its excellent location between Cairns and Port Douglas, the Cairns beaches are one of the best places to find an accommodation base while staying in the tropical north. The beaches themselves are all excellent holiday destinations in their own right with each one having beautiful beachfront resorts, delightful swimming beaches, access to hire equipment like windsurfers and paddle skis and all of these beaches have stinger nets to protect bathers from stinging jellyfish and the like. These marine jellyfish are most active during the wet season when they are washed out of local creeks and rivers and then swim along the beaches. It is wise not to swim in unprotected areas during these times.
Palm Cove is the most popular of the Cairns Beaches destinations. It is the place to find some of the most beautiful resorts in the entire Cairns/ Port Douglas region and most of them are right on the beachfront. Places like the Sea Temple resort, Angsana resort and Amphora resort provide excellent apartment style accommodation. The Sebel Beach House and Spa is a magnificent resort, with a central esplanade position and is surrounded by great restaurants and cafes. This section of the esplanade is lined by enormous Meleauluka trees that are hundreds of years old and help to create the beautiful ambience that makes Palm Cove the delightful tourist destination that it is. To the South of Palm Cove are Clifton and Trinity beaches. Trinty Beach has also developed a strong resort profile and many holiday makers return here year after year for their annual holidays. Both Clifton Beach and Yorkeys Knob are popular tourist destinations. Both have beautiful resorts and Yorkeys has a fantastic marina and yacht club. Ellis beach is the northernmost and is the picture postcard image of a coconut tree lined tropical beach with white sands and a laid back island type atmosphere. There is a caravan park and beachfront cabins for an Australian style family holiday. To the north of the Cairns Beaches region is Port Douglas and the Daintree rainforest region. Inland is the Atherton Tableland and the city of Cairns with its access to the Great Barrier Reef and diving holidays lies to the south. If you are coming to north Queensland as part of your holiday, then check out the Cairns Beaches before you decide where you would like to stay. |
